Following cyclonic storm Phailin and continuous rain for five days in the month of October, 2013, the condition of people became very precarious. Many thatched & asbestos houses were either fully or partially dam-aged, electricity disrupted, road communication blocked due to uprooting of trees and electric poles. Standing crops were completely lost. Food and safe drinking water was not available to lakhs of people. Government & Civil society organizations were engaged in distribution of relief and clearing of debris, providing cooked food to people living in different shelters. National & International donors came forward to assist the people in all possible manners.

SNDAYP requested The Hans Foundation, New Delhi to provide financial assistance for distribution of relief to the needy people of the urban slums within Puri Municipal area & Sadar block Panchayats. Accordingly the Foundation provided necessary assistance for supply of Dry food, baby food, blankets, tarpaulin sheets, solar light, sanitary napkins and medicines. The organization sought the cooperation of municipal councilors of Puri Municipality and PRI members of Sadar block for distribution of these mate-rials to the affected people. Health camps were organized with participation of doctors and medicines were distributed according to their advice.
